Principles of Sports Assessment, Diagnosis and Treatment
The lecture will focus on osteopathic approaches to sports people from ages 5 to 75. We will look at the pressure on the practitioner from the athlete, parents and coaches for a favourable diagnosis. When is it safe to clear an athlete to continue training or compete? We will cover the essential skills for rapid and effective pitch-side assessment of acute injuries where issues of speed and safety are paramount.
Many athletes are plagued by chronic repetitive injuries which limit their performance, and are aggravated by continued training, osteopathy can offer powerful tools to aid their recovery. We will review orthapedic testing with a specific focus on sports injuries. This course will focus on practical application of techniques and how osteopathic principles can be adapted to the unique psychology of the sports environment.
